Shape Understanding of 2D and 3D shapes: Encourage understanding of shape through play. Children can explore and manipulate various shapes, enhancing their spatial awareness and geometric knowledge.
Fine Motor Skills: Improve fine motor skills. Handling the different components of the set helps children refine their dexterity and coordination.
Active Engagement: Promotes hands-on learning. The interactive nature of the set engages children actively, making abstract concepts more tangible.
EYFS Mathematics: Supports EYFS mathematics. Helps children talk about and explore 2D and 3D shapes, aligning with early years curriculum goals.

Learning Resources Stem Explorers: Geomakers

Develop understanding of 2D and 3D shapes through fun, hands-on building activities.

Overview

The activity guide includes ten engaging tasks designed to develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills vital in early STEM.

Enhancing children’s understanding of 2D and 3D shapes, this resource includes 30 sticks, 12 curves, 6 red connectors, 10 orange connectors, and an Activity Guide for unique constructions. This hands-on approach promotes active learning and engagement with geometric concepts.

Aligned with the EYFS curriculum, it supports early years mathematics by helping children explore and discuss 2D and 3D shapes, developing spatial reasoning skills as they select, rotate, and manipulate shapes. It also fosters creativity by allowing children to combine shapes to create new ones, deepening their understanding of geometric properties.
For Key Stage One, this resource aligns with Year One and Year Two mathematics. Children can recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes, and use mathematical vocabulary to describe position, direction, and movement. The included activity guide offers structured tasks that promote problem-solving and critical thinking, essential skills for early STEM education.
