AP Dragster Designer 30 Pack

Design and test air-powered dragsters with wheels and axles while exploring construction, aerodynamics, and friction.

Overview

Class kit for 30 pupils includes all equipment to build dragsters and an air-powered launching system for testing.

Engaging children in hands-on learning, this kit develops fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they shape and construct dragsters. The pack includes everything needed to teach a full STEM project, from balsa wood car bodies to wheels and axles.

Supporting the UK curriculum, the kit aids science by helping children identify the effects of air resistance. It also aligns with Key Stage One and Key Stage Two Design & Technology objectives, allowing children to use a range of tools and equipment for tasks like cutting, shaping, joining, and finishing.
The hand pump and air-powered launcher allow children to test their dragsters, exploring acceleration and the calculation of speed. This hands-on testing phase reinforces theoretical knowledge and adds excitement to learning. A teaching guide is included; however, schools will need to provide their own shaping tools like coping saws and wood shavers if required.

Supports the National Curriculum

Science, Year 5, Forces

Identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces.

Design & Technology, Key Stage 1, Make

Select from and use a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks (for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing).

Design & Technology, Key Stage 2, Make

Select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks (for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing), accurately.
