Helping to Support Teaching and Learning

Interactive Learning: The tactile reader offers an interactive way for children to engage with programming. By using physical coding blocks, it helps make abstract concepts more tangible and understandable.
Hands-On Experience: The rugged robot provides practical experience, enabling children to apply coding skills in real-world scenarios by controlling physical systems.
Develops Problem-Solving: Children learn to decompose problems into smaller parts, improving their problem-solving skills. This approach helps them tackle complex tasks by breaking them down into manageable steps.
Encourages Logical Thinking: Using the bundle, children can predict the behaviour of simple programs through logical reasoning. This skill is useful for developing computational thinking and understanding programming logic.
Key Stage 1 Computing: Supports Key Stage 1 computing by enabling children to create and debug simple programs. It fosters early development of programming skills and builds a foundation for future learning.

TTS Tactile Reader Pro and Rugged Robot Bundle

Bundle includes a Tactile Reader Pro and a Rugged Robot for programming.

Overview

It offers a seamless transition from early to advanced programming using a screen-free device for coding and computational thinking.

In computing education, it is essential to engage children with interactive tools. The tactile reader and rugged robot bundle brings a tangible aspect to programming, offering teachers effective resources to enhance learning. The tactile reader allows children to engage with physical coding blocks, making abstract concepts more relatable.
Children can create sequences by placing the tiles in order, each representing a different command. It allows young learners to build and de-bug algorithms for the included Rugged Robot. The tiles feature directional commands representing the following movements, forwards, backwards, left (90°) and right (90°). A pause command is also included. Children can learn to create, troubleshoot and refine their programs and debugging is simplified as each tile lights up when working through the sequence.
Using Bluetooth connectivity, the tactile reader is compatible with Rugged Robot. Constructed for durability, the Rugged Robot is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Features include an obstacle sensor for navigation around objects, a memory of up to 256 steps and 3 torque settings. It can be controlled manually, or via tablet or the Tactile Reader.
The extension pack of 25 tiles introduces children to more complex programming concepts. With tiles included for 45-degree turns and multiple repeat commands, it enables children to experiment with loops.

At Key Stage 1, the bundle aids in creating and debugging simple programs. It encourages computational thinking by helping children use logical reasoning to predict simple program behaviours, an essential skill for understanding digital systems.
For Key Stage 2, this bundle enables children to design, write, and debug programs to meet specific goals, including controlling systems. Children learn to use sequencing, selection, and repetition in programs, deepening their understanding of algorithms. Decomposing problems into smaller parts cultivates problem-solving skills, building a foundation in computing.

Supports the National Curriculum

Computing, Key Stage 1

Create and debug simple programs.

Computing, Key Stage 2

Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems and solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts.

Computing, Key Stage 2

Use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs and work with variables and various forms of input and output.
